Rainbow Trail

Length: 5 miles (2.5 out + 2.5 back)
Time: 3 hours
Weather: 65 degrees, sunny

The Rainbow Trail forms a 70 mile arc, starting in the San Isabel forest somewhat near Salida, following the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range, to Westcliffe. I believe it is popular with mountain bikers. We hiked a few miles of it from a trailhead off of Hwy 285 south of Poncha Springs and heading east.

South Fooses Creek

Date: 5/29/2012
Who: Michelle, Sammy and myself
Length: 3 miles (1.5 out + 1.5 back)
Time: 2 hours
Weather: 65 degrees, sunny

This is a relatively level hike that follows Fooses Creek through the forest. We enjoyed the forest sights and sounds, and Sammy enjoyed the creek. The road to the trailhead is somewhat rough. The trail would be fun for hikers of any ability. This is a segment of the Colorado Trail. One could continue on it for miles, up to the Continental Divide and beyond.
