Captain Jacks and Gold Camp Road

Date: 7/21/2012
Who: Zach, John, and myself
Distance: about 12 miles
Weather: sunny, hot

My nephew Zach and brother-in-law John rented some nice mountain bikes from Criterium for the day. This was a repeat of a ride that Zach and I did in December 2011. Except at the end, instead of the Chutes trail, we took Gold Camp Road to its end and rode to downtown Colorado Springs. We had lunch at Jack Quinn Irish Pub, and rode home.

This ride followed the PURPLE line (mostly), then followed Gold Camp Road to downtown Colorado Springs:

Captain Jack’s and the Chutes

Date: 12/13/2011
Who: Zach and myself
Length: 10 miles?
Time: 2 hours
Weather: warm, sunny

I rode this trail with my nephew Zach. Michelle and Debbie drove us up to the parking lot at the top of North Cheyenne Canyon park. We rode up Gold Camp road and took the Mt. Buckhorn trail up to the top of Captain Jack’s. It was about all downhill from there. Michelle and Deb picked us up down at the Stratton open space parking lot, where we took Sammy for a short hike.
I have lived in Colorado Springs for 17 years and this was my first time on Captain Jacks or the Chutes. I should have tried it sooner!
Here’s a video clip Zach made holding his iPhone on his handlebars.
