Red Rock Canyon & Section 16

Date: 2/19/2012
Who: Michelle, Sammy and myself
Length: 4.9 miles
Time: 2 hours
Weather: 48 degrees, sunny

Today we hiked a loop starting in Red Rock Canyon, through part of Section 16, and back to Red Rock. The Section 16 trails are not well-documented on my maps, so it was interesting to explore a little bit.

This hike followed the RED line:

  1. Looked like another nice weather day for you all! Question for you: how do you create the maps with colored lines for your hiking route? Do you have to spray the ground as you walk, and then wait for Google to take a new aerial photo?!? Or do you use a GPS to trace your path and upload the data? Or “hand” edit a map using your “spidey” sense, military training, eagle scout experience, and/or world renowned “Hair sense of direction”?!? Must be the Hair thing…
Thanks for the updates, love em.

    • Hey Chance,

I use the “My Places” feature in Google Maps. It is at http://maps.google.com. Then, log in with your Google account. Then, go to My Places in the left-pane, and create a map. You can add edit your personal maps with annotations such as lines and place markers. You can make your annotated map public or private. Google Maps has a “embed” button which generates html code which you can then copy over to a blog.
