Devil’s Head Lookout

Today I hiked the trail to Devil’s Head Lookout. The trip to the trailhead was half of the fun. I drove from Colorado Springs up to Woodland Park, and then took Rampart Range Road north for about 90 minutes. I had never taken Rampart Range Road that far before.

The trail was quite busy with people. It is a good, well-maintained trail. The friendly ranger at the lookout tower was handing out these souvenir cards. It bugs me a little that I still don’t know how the peak got its name. I could not recognize any rock or perspective that reminded me of a devil’s head.

  1. I read this one when you first posted, but didn’t get an opportunity to comment…are you freaking kidding me—The Ancient and Honorable Order of the Squirrels…not just old, but also HONORABLE! Truly sweet, such as in, “that is fracking sweet!” Does that mean you now have a secret handshake with any squirrel you meet? Or do you have to feed and/or house any squirrel that comes to your door and does the secret tail shake signal!? While I don’t expect a reply, due to confidentiality agreements, I do expect all communications of the Order are being monitored or compiled by the government security apparatus. Maintain only acorn signals until updated further.
